The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, stated on Wednesday that the signing of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) protocol between Peru and Guatemala marks a milestone in the history and bilateral relationship, and opens a new stage of development and cooperation.

During the signing ceremony, the Head of State indicated that both countries are taking a historic step toward deeper, fairer, and more supportive commercial integration.

"Today, with the signing of the protocol that will enable the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement between Peru and Guatemala, we are marking a milestone in our history, in this bilateral relationship, and we are opening a new stage of cooperation and development," she expressed.

Likewise, Mrs. Boluarte pointed out that trade between both countries shows "clear signs of growth and commercial opportunities," considering that in 2024 the exchange reached US$250 million, a 20.5% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

The Head of State indicated that with these figures, "Guatemala became the second-largest trading partner in Central America -a bond that will be further strengthened by the FTA and will boost the economic development of both countries."

"It (The FTA) is an embrace between two peoples who preserve the dignity of their ancient roots and who meet again today with respect and a shared will to build a better future," she said.

The top official affirmed that with the entry into force of this FTA, exports of grapes, palm oil, and others "will bring flavor and quality to Guatemala."

In turn, Peru will receive the finest goods, benefiting micro and small enterprises.

"This signing is a sign of trust because when trade is fair and aimed at shared development, it becomes a powerful tool for inclusion,” Mrs. Boluarte stated.

“We are sealing a commitment to development and brotherhood, and we hope that this act will inspire other countries in the region to work for a more united Latin America," she added.

The event was held at the Government Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
