Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzen on Monday expressed the sorrow of the institution he leads over the passing of Pope Francis, who died at the age of 88.

Via his X account, the Cabinet chief shared the message previously published by the Presidency of the Republic's official account. It expressed the deepest condolences to the Catholic community on behalf of Peru.

"From the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, we join in the President's sorrow and express our deepest condolences following the passing of the Holy Father Francis," reads the message posted by Adrianzen.

Pope Francis passed away this Monday at 7:35 a.m. (Vatican time), after suffering from a painful illness.

"The Bishop of Rome has returned to the Father’s house. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and His Church, and he taught us the value of the Gospel with faithfulness, courage, and universal love —especially for the poorest and most marginalized," Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Catholic Church, announced.
