—an entity attached to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC)— reported that more than 42.3 million people traveled by air in Peru during 2024.
This figure represents a 5.9% growth compared to 2019, the year prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, when just over 40 million passengers were recorded.
The total passenger flow also exceeded that recorded in 2023 by 14.2%, a year when 37.1 million people traveled.
Of the total reached in 2024, 31.1 million passengers (73.3%) took domestic flights, while 11.3 million (26.7%) arrived in Peru or departed for international destinations.
During 2024, 455,531 air operations (landings and takeoffs) were recorded, which represents a 9.6% increase compared to 2023, when 415,279 flights were reported. However, this figure still remains 9.3% below the volume recorded in 2019 (502,220 flights).
Of the total flights in 2024, 83.6% corresponded to domestic flights (380,703 operations) and 16.4% to international flights (74,828 operations).
Airports with the most passengers
Located in Callao region, Jorge Chavez International Airport handled the highest passenger traffic in the country.
Of the 42.3 million people who traveled by air, 26.1 million (61.5%) did so through this terminal.
Of the total passengers who arrived at or departed from Jorge Chavez, 14.9 million (57.5%) took domestic flights and 11 million (42.5%) traveled to or from abroad.
The terminals with the highest passenger traffic after the Callao-based airport were those of Cusco (4.2 million), Arequipa (2.3 million), Tarapoto (1.2 million), Piura (1.1 million), Iquitos (1.02 million), Trujillo (1.02 million), Chiclayo (921,000), Pucallpa (700,000), and Cajamarca (672,000).
These results reflect the progressive recovery of the aeronautical sector and the commitment of the MTC and Corpac to continue strengthening air connectivity nationwide, thus boosting economic development, tourism, and regional integration.
