Turquoise Waters: Ayacucho launches campaign to promote its most emblematic attraction

With great anticipation, regional and local authorities officially launched the "Aguas Turquesas 2025" (Turquoise Waters 2025) tourist season —an emblematic natural circuit located in the farming community of Circamarca, Huancaraylla district, Victor Fajardo province, and one of the main tourist destinations in Ayacucho region.

The campaign seeks to attract more than 30,000 visitors during the high season, which runs from May to September.

This event included the participation of Ayacucho Region Vice Governor Tania Vila, along with district and provincial mayors, as well as regional councilors.

Ayacucho's Foreign Trade and Tourism (Dircetur) Regional Director, Sinthia Caballero, highlighted the entity's commitment to promoting new sustainable tourist destinations that, in addition to showcasing the region's natural wealth, boost its economic development.

"We are working to position Aguas Turquesas as a must-visit destination in Peru. In addition to the visual appeal, we offer unique cultural, gastronomic, and artistic experiences that enrich the visit," said Caballero.

The Aguas Turquesas of Millpu circuit consist of a series of 20 turquoise-colored water pools, located at more than 3,600 meters above sea level, surrounded by Andean vegetation.

This impressive coloration is the result of a combination of minerals and sunlight —a natural phenomenon that has captured the attention of both domestic and foreign tourists.

Since November 2018, swimming in the pools has been prohibited in order to preserve this fragile ecosystem.

However, visitors can walk along designated trails, as well as take photos from viewpoints and pool edges, enjoying the surroundings without affecting the ecological balance.

To reach this natural paradise, travelers can take a flight from Lima to Ayacucho, which lasts approximately 45 minutes, followed by a land journey of about 3 and a half hours heading south.

There is also the option to make the entire journey by land in about 8 hours via the Los Libertadores Highway.

Ayacucho already has authorized tourism agencies that offer safe and guided packages to Millpu, guaranteeing a responsible and environmentally respectful experience.

With this initiative, Ayacucho reaffirms its commitment to sustainable tourism, positioning the Aguas Turquesas as one of Peru's main natural destinations for 2025.
