Peruvian Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Desilu Leon presented the "Friend of Peru" recognition to the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, in acknowledgment of its efforts to position the South American country as an important cultural, culinary, and tourist destination.

"This distinction recognizes the institution's valuable contribution to spreading Peruvian culture and strengthening ties between our nations," Minister Leon emphasized during her working visit to the United States.

The award was received by the museum's President and CEO, Jennifer Pace Robinson, in a ceremony attended by Peruvian Ambassador to the United States, Alfredo Ferrero, and diplomatic mission members

Last July, the Children's Museum of Indianapolis inaugurated an immersive exhibition titled "Take Me There: Peru," which simulates a journey through the country's coastal, highland, and rainforest regions.

The exhibit features depictions of urban and rural homes, traditional foods, dances, music, and costumes, as well as sounds in Spanish and Quechua languages.

Designed for children aged 6 to 10 and their families, the permanent exhibition aims to inspire them to explore and learn about Peru's diverse landscapes and traditions.

"As Peruvians, we take pride in knowing that, over the next five years, this important cultural platform will place the country at the heart of the global educational and cultural stage, reaching millions of visitors and bringing Peru closer to the U.S. community," she remarked.

During the ceremony, the government official also underscored that the United States is one of Peru's main source markets for tourists, noting that more than 604,000 U.S. travelers arrived in the South American country last year.

"The U.S. is also our main destination for agricultural exports. Therefore, this exhibition reflects the growing importance of tourism and trade as pillars of our bilateral relationship," she highlighted.

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is also a licensee of the Marca Peru country brand, managed by the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PromPeru), thereby helping to promote Peru's tourism and export offer.

The distinction ceremony was held as part of the celebrations marking 200 years of diplomatic relations between both countries, as well as the 100th anniversary of the Children's Museum of Indianapolis.

It is one of the largest children's museums in the world and among the most recognized in the U.S. cultural and educational scene.

Every year, it welcomes more than one million visitors, consolidating its status as one of the most important cultural attractions in the city and the North American country.
