The forward Hernán Barcos said that becoming an idol of Alianza Lima is a dream for him and that the "intimate club" gave him a lot. Furthermore, being there is good for his family and for himself, regardless of the options to go abroad that he passed on in order to remain at the Victorian institution.
Barcos is acclaimed by the Alianza Lima fans thanks to his goals and the strong dedication he shows in every match for the blue and white colors team. That fills the 41-year-old Argentine centre-forward with happiness, who said he feels happy at the Victorian club and even more so about becoming an idol.
“It’s a dream to be able to be an idol of a club like Alianza Lima, and that the people tells you this, that speaks well of the work I do, and it makes me proud to be called an idol,” he told Movistar Deportes.

At another point, the "Pirate" as he is also well-known in the soccer field, said that despite his age, he never stops learning and that he is very self-critical because that’s the only way to improve.
“The first thing one must be is self-critical, otherwise there’s no improvement, no correction. Today at 41 I keep seeing what I need to gain an advantage over a defender, it’s the little details one keeps improving, and they make a difference on the field”, he said.
Regarding his affection for Alianza Lima, Hernán Barcos was clear in stating that being there is good for him and for his family. He also confessed that he turned down important offers to go abroad in order to stay in La Victoria.
“Alianza Lima gave me a lot — I arrived at a difficult time for me, a difficult time for the club, we came together and helped each other mutually, that’s why I was able to stay here. I had several chances to leave, but I said I’m good here, I’m comfortable. The club is good for me, for my family, and I’m good for the club. I prefer to stay here, in a good and comfortable place, based on what one feels and perceives, and I have turned down important offers in order to stay here,” he emphasized.
Eternal goalscorer
Hernán Barcos has scored 317 goals so far, and he is in second place among the highest-scoring active Argentine players, only behind Lionel Messi.
Of that amount, 68 goals were scored wearing the Alianza Lima jersey since his arrival in 2021, making him the highest-scoring foreign player in the history of the Victorian club.
Currently, he is the top scorer of the 2025 Copa Libertadores, with 5 goals. He scored 2 against Nacional (Paraguay), 1 against Boca Juniors (Argentina), 1 against Deportes Iquique (Chile), and 1 against Talleres de Córdoba (Argentina).
