The technological giant company Huawei in cooperation with The National Telecommunications Research and Training Institute of the National University of Engineering (INICTEL-UNI) trained 500 female students, in Arequipa, in technological subjects.
This training "Women in Tech" successfully completed represents an effort to increase female representation in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry.
The aim is to encourage women to participate in the scientific and technological ecosystem, providing them with opportunities and support to develop their potential and contribute to a more prosperous and equitable future.
Girls’ participation in ICT is crucial to empowering them and diversifying the workforce, stimulating innovation and sustainable development. By fostering interest and education in ICT from an early age, new opportunities open for girls to develop technical and creative skills.
Ana Sofia Rodriguez Yañez, Vice Minister of Women, highlighted the conference is a crucial venue that recognizes and celebrates women who are making their way in the digital world as an inspiration to future generations.
“By being reflected as technology leaders, girls and teens find that access to technology not only expands their individual horizons, but also empowers them to transform their communities. The future is built with full participation, and the Peru of tomorrow depends on your ability to imagine and create”, said the Vice Minister Rodriguez.
“This not only gives them access to high-quality jobs in the future, but also contributes to a more inclusive and dynamic economy. In addition, diversity in the technology sector is driving the creation of more innovative and effective solutions to address global challenges and promote sustainable development”, explained Bleny Valdivia, Public Relations Manager, Huawei Peru.
The closing event was held in the auditorium of Juana Cervantes de Bolognesi School of Arequipa this month, as part of the International Day of Girls in ICT, celebrated every fourth Thursday of April.
This event aims to motivate girls and young women to explore and develop their potential in ICT, inspiring them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Huawei seeks to promote, recognize, and support girls’ and women’s access to ICT through initiatives such as “Women in Tech”, as well as provide scholarships and run forums focused on women, promoting their inclusion and access to technology.
