Economic activities such as mining, fishing, and agro-exports have become the main drivers of employment in Peru. This was confirmed by the
"In Peru, the sectors that have generated employment are basically fishing, manufacturing, services, and mining —always based on national production," Minister Daniel Maurate said in an interview with TVPeru on Thursday.
The government official explained that national production in Peru is mainly made up of natural resource extraction activities.
"That is why we always focus on mining, fishing —sectors in which we've performed well— and also, in recent years, on agro-exports. That is good because 10 years ago, we were not positioned in the agro-export market. All of that generates more employment," Maurate commented.
However, he noted that one of the challenges to face is training human capital to enter the formal labor market in other types of activities that currently have higher demand for personnel.
"Our main challenge is human capital. We need to work hard on this so that human capital is highly skilled, with digital and technological competencies, and can also have an impact on production, so that (our production) is not only (based on) the exploitation of natural resources," the MTPE head stated.
In that sense, the minister stated that his sector is working on improving job placement and free training through the platforms Mi Carrera (My Career) and Capacita-T (Train Yourself), respectively.
"To achieve this, we need to focus a lot on young people, and we are working hard with them to improve their job placement, in order to enhance their work skills, and align them with the digital skills that are required," he emphasized.
