FA Ministry: Qatar and Peru issue joint political statement

The State of Qatar and the Republic of Peru issued a joint political statement following the meeting between Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer and his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

As is known, the Peruvian government official is conducting an official visit to Qatar and other Gulf nations.

"Within this framework, both parties exchanged views on a range of regional and international issues of mutual interest, emphasizing the importance of advancing the peace process toward lasting peace in the Middle East," the document stated.

It also specified that both representatives underscored the State of Qatar's key role as a major mediator in promoting peace in regional and international conflicts, as evidenced by its significant contributions in various conflict zones, particularly its decisive role in facilitating the recent ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, which began on January 19, 2025.

During the meeting, the two parties expressed their satisfaction with the significant understanding reached through the Third Political Consultation Mechanism held in Lima on January 15, 2025, as well as in previous meetings under this framework, which have contributed to strengthening bilateral dialogue.

"Both parties discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including economic and trade relations, political and consular affairs, youth and sports cooperation, cultural exchange, health, tourism development, and food security," the document stated.

"They also explored ways to advance development projects and identified new areas of cooperation aimed at further deepening relations between the two countries," it added.

In conclusion, Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to His Excellency, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, for the generous hospitality, warm welcome, and fruitful discussions that further enhanced relations between both nations.

Lastly, the two parties expressed their satisfaction with the tangible results achieved during the visit and reaffirmed their commitment to continue working together to advance cooperation in the service of the interests of both countries.
