Peru: Mining investments exceeded US$368 million in Jan 2025

Mining investments in Peru surpassed US$368 million in January 2025, reflecting a 26.1% increase compared to the US$292 million reported in January of the previous year, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) stated.

This result was mainly driven by contributions from Shougang Hierro Peru and Compañia Minera Antapaccay (Antapaccay Mining Company).

According to the Mining Statistical Bulletin (BEM), published by the General Directorate of Mining Promotion and Sustainability (DGPM), investments in five out of six investment categories recorded positive year-over-year variations, including Beneficiation Plant (20.3%), Mining Equipment (20.7%), Exploration (24.5%), Infrastructure (48.2%), and Development and Preparation (56%).

Breakdown of Investments

Beneficiation Plant investments in January 2025 reached US$78 million, recording a 20.3% increase compared to January 2024, demonstrating continued interest in enhancing processing capacity.

Mining Equipment investments amounted to US$58 million, reflecting a 20.7% rise compared to the same period in 2024, indicating a focus on adopting more advanced and efficient technologies.

Exploration investments in January 2025 totaled US$39 million, marking a 24.5% growth from the US$31 million recorded in January 2024, highlighting a commitment to diversifying and expanding mining operations in the country.

Infrastructure investments reached US$90 million, an expansion of 48.2% compared to January 2024.

Development and Preparation investments totaled US$68 million, reflecting a 56% increase over January 2024.

Top Mining Investors in Early 2025

The mining companies that reported the highest investment amounts at the beginning of 2025 were:

- Shougang Hierro Peru, due to its investments in its Administrative Economic Unit "CPS 1."

- Compañia Minera Antamina S.A. (Antamina Mining Company), owing to its higher expenditures in its "Yanacancha 1" Administrative Economic Unit and "Huincush" Beneficiation Plant.

- Anglo American Quellaveco and Compañia Minera Antapaccay, driven by investments in their "Acumulacion Antapaccay" Beneficiation Plant and "Antapaccay 1" Administrative Economic Unit.
