The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, on Friday stated that the government is reorganizing the penitentiary system by transferring high-risk inmates to Challapalca Prison (Tacna region), carrying out unannounced operations, and tightening prison conditions.

"I have ordered continuous and unannounced raids. In our government, there is no room for corruption to have its way; we are firm. If we have to remove someone from office, we will do so without hesitation or consideration. The country's security cannot and must not be subject to under-the-table deals," she said.
The top official noted that Challapalca Prison is a maximum-security facility, where living conditions are very harsh, but that is not enough, which is why she has ordered such measures to continue.
"Our government does not make any deals with corruption, let that be very clear," said Mrs. Boluarte, who this morning chaired a new meeting in the War Room for citizen security.
The Head of State indicated that once the state of emergency declared in Lima Metropolitan Area and Callao region comes to an end, an evaluation will be conducted, as the country needs tangible and real data, not mere theories.
Likewise, the President stated that a clear example of coordinated efforts, commitment, and the courage of law enforcement is the round-the-clock operations against dangerous criminals and to dismantle criminal gangs that threaten the population.
Mrs. Boluarte cited as an example the recent operation against "Los Injertos del Norte," alleged perpetrators of the murder of cumbia singer Paul Flores from the group Armonía 10.
"These types of actions reflect the dedication, strategy, and determination with which law enforcement —our forces of order— confront organized crime daily. In this War Room, we coordinate actions with ministers and key officials in this fight against crime," she stated.
President Boluarte also noted that Peru is a brave and dignified nation; not as some want citizens to believe during election season, that everything is lost, that people are divided, that they live surrounded by fear and violence.
"They want us to forget who we are: a brave and dignified people. They use fear just as they once used weapons, to try to demoralize us, to steal our hope. But we will not allow it. This democracy is ours; we defended it, and we will continue to defend it," she said.
"Peru does not give up. Here we are, with our heads held high, to tell crime and its promoters: you shall not pass! We will continue in unity and responsibility, strengthening the peace and security of our beloved homeland," she concluded.
