During a plenary session on Tuesday, Congress rejected authorizing President Dina Boluarte's trip to New York City, United States, aimed at attending the United Nations General Assembly from September 21 to 26, 2024.

There were 50 votes in favor, 55 votes against, and 5 abstentions on the draft legislative resolution that would authorize the top official to travel abroad.

The Head of State had requested permission to participate in the main activities of the
High-Level Week of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Minute of silence

Salhuana said that Saavedra —a 46-year-old medical doctor by profession and a representative of Loreto region— was in Cusco fulfilling a work agenda for the Decentralization Commission.

"The colleague died while fulfilling his mission," he stated.

Before the end of the plenary session, Parliament's head announced that a posthumous tribute for the deceased congressman will be held at the Legislative Palace on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. (local time).
