Reflecting on lessons learned from the pandemic about the importance of preparedness, coordination, and collaboration in responding to health emergencies, Health ministers from
APEC economies on Sunday issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to strengthen cooperation.
The joint statement reflects the outcomes of the 14th High-Level Meeting on Health and the Economy, ensuring that health is inclusive.
These outcomes cover key topics discussed at the meeting, including:
- The intersection between gender and health.
- Universal and community mental health and well-being.
- Impacts of climate change on health.
- The importance of immunization throughout life course.
In the statement, ministers also recognize the vital work and contributions of the health workforce and reiterate the imperative to strengthen their capacities, ensuring inclusivity and the provision of quality and affordable healthcare services by incorporating digital technologies to improve the system's efficiency.
This event was chaired by Peru's Health Minister Dr. Cesar Vasquez.
Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.

APEC is made up of:
Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, the Russian Federation, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam.
Together, they account for 62% of world's GDP, 48% of global trade in goods and services, plus 38% of the planet's population.
