President: Peru reaffirms commitment to strengthening relations with Brunei Darussalam

The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Tuesday reaffirmed Peru's commitment to strengthening its relations with Brunei Darussalam, as well as enhancing commercial and economic cooperation between the two nations.

This announcement was made during the working meeting held between the Peruvian President and the Sultan of the Asian nation, Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, along with the councils of ministers from both Peru and Brunei Darussalam.

"Today, Peru reaffirms its commitment to strengthen our bilateral relations, increase commercial and economic cooperation to leverage our mutual membership in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, as well as the APEC forum," Mrs. Boluarte stated.

The top official highlighted the signing of a memorandum of understanding to establish a bilateral consultation mechanism as part of the state visit, which will help expand the bilateral agenda "by adding more substance, as well as contributing to dialogue and cooperation on matters of mutual interest."

"I express Peru's firm commitment to making the most of this new dialogue platform, which opens with the signing of this memorandum, allowing for regular sessions," she said.

Later, the Head of State emphasized that Brunei Darussalam and Peru established bilateral relations 34 years ago, during which a bilateral relationship based on common interests in trade, investment, and sustainable development has been established .

"Both countries share foreign policy objectives, particularly in strengthening multilateralism and promoting international trade," she added.

The Sultan of Brunei Darussalam began his state visit to Peru, which includes a working meeting of both ministerial teams and the signing of various agreements.
