In order to unite efforts aimed at extinguishing forest fires, Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzen on Monday called on the population not to continue with the practice of burning pastures, as it generates fires.

Within this framework, the Cabinet Chief emphasized that the Executive Branch is boosting coordinated efforts to extinguish flames in areas that cannot be reached by aircraft.

"All the forest fires that are occurring nationwide are of human origin. That is why I issue a special call on our communities to stop the practice of burning pastures," he said after participating in the Lima-based International Green Finance Forum.

The Cabinet chief reported that in areas inaccessible by aircraft due to climatic conditions for dropping water on the fire, the Peruvian State is boosting coordinated efforts with the Armed Forces, firefighters, and civil society to extinguish the flames.

He added that the situation in each area experiencing fires is being assessed in order to consider the appropriateness of declaring a state of emergency.

"We still do not have critical reasons that justify a state of emergency. In Peru, we do not currently need international aid; however, we do not rule it out, as the situation could worsen," he stated.

The National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) reported that 233 forest fires have been registered, of which 179 have been extinguished (76%), 22 are under control, and 32 are active. These fires have caused the death of 15 people.
