Peru: Government Palace to host state and official visits during APEC 2024 forum

From November 12 to 17, 2024, the Government Palace in Lima will be the venue for a series of official and state visits as part of the APEC 2024 forum, which will bring together leaders from 21 member economies.

These visits will mark a milestone in Peru's bilateral diplomatic relations, as well as strengthen cooperation with various economies on trade, investment, energy, climate change, security, and other key areas that will contribute to national development.

In preparation, the Executive Branch has conducted rehearsals and coordination with delegations from the participating economies over the past few weeks to ensure readiness for the state and official visits to be hosted by the Peruvian Government.

November 12


During their meeting, the two leaders will discuss topics such as economic and energy cooperation, as well as efforts to combat climate change, with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations.

November 13

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will make an official visit. 

During his stay, discussions will focus on promoting bilateral trade, Halal certification for Peruvian products, and strengthening the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

The visit will also focus on the development of a new logistical, industrial, and technological hub on Peru's central coast, which is shaping up to be a significant investment for both countries.

On the same day, the President of Viet Nam, Luong Cuong, will pay an official visit. The discussions will center on enhancing bilateral relations and trade cooperation.

November 14

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will be welcomed at the Government Palace for a state visit.

Topics to be addressed will include commemorating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, agreements on trade promotion, combating illicit drug trafficking, and cooperation in infrastructure.

On the same day, Peru will also welcome a state visit from the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping.

The agenda for this meeting will include strengthening bilateral trade, as well as exploring investment opportunities in infrastructure and mining.

The visit will conclude with the inauguration of the Chancay Megaport, one of the most ambitious Chinese investment projects in Peru.

November 16

The President of the Republic of Korea, Yoon Suk-Yeol, will make an official visit.

At this event discussions will focus on increasing South Korean investments in Peru, deepening defense cooperation, and strengthening collaboration in science and technology.

The meeting will also cover the signing of new bilateral agreements and joint projects.

November 17

The President of the Republic of Peru will welcome Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.

During the official visit, discussions will focus on expanding the Economic Partnership Agreement, with particular emphasis on the export of key minerals and food products to Japan, as well as cooperation in science, technology, and cultural relations.

These state and official visits will strengthen Peru's international presence and trust, fostering the creation of new strategic ties, both economically and diplomatically, through cooperation for the benefit of the Peruvian people.

Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.
