A total of 129 pieces that comprise the Nation's cultural heritage were recovered and delivered during a formal ceremony held recently at the Peruvian Embassy in Austria.

The aforementioned cultural assets were handed over voluntarily by an Austrian citizen born in Peru, the Foreign Affairs Ministry indicated.

Among the recovered pieces are important ceramics, fine goldsmith objects, and textiles from the pre-Inca cultures of Chancay, Chimu, Moche, Vicus, Lambayeque, Cupisnique, and Nazca.

Two Peruvian paintings representing "Saint Teresa of Jesus" and "Saint John the Baptist as a Child" from the colonial period of the 18th century were handed over as well.

During the ceremony, the Embassy's Chargé d'Affaires Claudia Guevara thanked the Austrian citizen for this restitution.

The official also highlighted the great significance of each of the returned assets in the recovery and strengthening of our historical memory, an essential foundation of Peru and its identity.
