As part of the first APEC Senior Officials' Meeting, representatives of the APEC Peru 2024, Korea 2025, and China 2026 Presidencies, which form the Troika of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, held a key gathering to coordinate joint actions aimed at ensuring the success of the bloc's Presidency in 2025.

During the meeting, the three economies agreed on the need to strengthen efforts to build consensus on the approval of the documents that will be submitted to APEC leaders and ministers for consideration this year.

In this regard, the importance of maintaining close coordination among the incoming, current, and outgoing Presidencies was underscored to ensure continuity in the forum's key initiatives.

As APEC's host in 2025, South Korea has set strategic priorities, including the development of a roadmap for the use of artificial intelligence with an inclusive approach, particularly in the education sector.

Additionally, it aims for the 21 member economies to adopt declarations on key issues such as the sustainable management of oceans and fisheries, health, demographic aspects, and trade in the Asia-Pacific region.

The meeting also reaffirmed the commitment to advancing the implementation of the Lima Roadmap to Promote the Transition to the Formal and Global Economies (2025-2040), as well as the Ichma Statement on the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific.

These initiatives aim to strengthen regional economic integration and create greater opportunities for growth and sustainable development.

The APEC Troika will continue its joint efforts to ensure a smooth transition among Presidencies and to guarantee that the forum's commitments have a positive impact on the region.

The APEC 2025 First Senior Officials' Meeting and Related Meetings (SOM 1) was held in Gyeongju, South Korea, from February 24 to March 9.

Peru hosted APEC for the third time in 2024, following the 2008 and 2016 editions.
