Transportation Min: Peru seeks to bring Chinese airlines for fostering incoming tourism

11:00 | Lima, Jul. 9.

Transportation and Communications Minister Raul Perez Reyes indicated that Peru seeks to foster the arrival of Chinese airlines to boost visits by Chinese tourists.

This was stated on Monday when providing an assessment of the State visit to China aimed at strengthening trade and investment ties between Peru and the Asian Giant.

"We also discussed with the Chinese civil aviation authority the possibility for Chinese airlines to operate flights that may have stopovers in other countries due to distance constraints, but can complete the journey directly to Peru and bring tourists," he affirmed.

The Cabinet member said that, according to what was stated by Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Elizabeth Galdo, the goal set for this year is to welcome one million tourists.

"The Foreign Trade and Tourism minister had mentioned that this year's goal is to intend to bring in one million tourists, and China is a country that is emerging very strongly in post-pandemic tourism matters," Perez Reyes stated.

"So, we want to work on that line, having Chinese airlines coming to Peru and vice versa," he added.

5G mobile coverage

The Cabinet member also said that Peru's delegation had held meetings with Huawei regarding the boost to telecommunications coverage with 5G technology.

"They are currently working and deploying 5G technology; they are already enhancing 5G speeds, with more than one million 5G antennas deployed nationwide," Perez Reyes mentioned.

"They are already working on 5G applications at a productive level in terms of robotics, smart traffic, health, and education systems," he added.
