President Dina Boluarte on Thursday stated that Peru is committed to the energy transition and is actively collaborating with international actors to achieve this goal.

During her participation in the "High-Level Session: 'All Hands on Deck for the Energy Transition,'" Mrs. Boluarte called for investing in Peru with new clean technologies that enable the South American country to sustainably harness its natural resources.

In this regard, she stated that, aware of the challenges and opportunities presented by the energy transition, Peru is actively working, in collaboration with other Latin American countries and global partners, to attract the necessary investments and accelerate the development of renewable energy and efficiency.

The top official mentioned that, through the Pacific Alliance -which also includes Chile, Colombia, and Mexico- efforts are being undertaken to foster investment in clean energy projects, facilitate technology transfer, and ensure a just transition that respects national priorities.

"Peru is committed to the energy transition and is actively collaborating with international actors to achieve this goal," she noted during the high-level session.

The President underscored that our country has abundant natural resources and significant mineral reserves, ranking among the world's top producers of copper, silver, and zinc, as well as having important sources for wind and hydroelectric energy generation.

"This means, we are a country with abundant natural resources that favor energy transition, a process in which we are indeed involved to gradually move away from fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and gas, as energy generators, transitioning to less polluting renewable sources, such as solar and wind, as is the case with wind farms," she pointed out.

Furthermore, the Head of State specified that environmental permits consider and promote the use of clean energy so as to achieve sustainable projects that advance toward carbon neutrality.

"We are laying the foundations to shift from being a country that exports minerals to one that can transform its resources into essential elements for energy transition, such as lithium batteries and electronic components, which will not only enable cleaner energy but also help close the gaps of poverty," she indicated.

Moreover, Mrs. Boluarte invited investors to come to Peru and work together with a responsible approach to clean energy.

Lastly, she called on all countries to join the effort to make the urgent shift toward this type of generation, leaving behind the fossil-based model.
