The Presidency of the Republic on Friday recognized the efforts of the heroes who confronted the terrorist threat in our country, as part of the celebration of Defenders of Democracy Day.

This message was issued by the Presidential Office on the X platform.

"On Defenders of Democracy Day, we recognize the work of the heroes who confronted and defeated the terrorist threat in Peru, demonstrating that Peruvians are stronger when we work together," reads the post.

According to Law No. 31291, published in 2021, April 22 and September 12 of each year were specifically established as Defenders of Democracy Day.

On these dates, the aim is to honor members of the Armed Forces, National Police, Self-Defense Committees, and citizens who died, were injured, or became disabled in the fight against terrorism, as well as those who rendered outstanding service to the Nation.

Subsequently, Law No. 29031 also established the "Medal of the Defender of Democracy," awarded by the Executive Branch.
