Peru reaffirmed its commitment to the maintenance of peace and international security during the United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial 2025, held in the German city of Berlin on May 13 and 14.

The deployment of 254 Armed Forces personnel in six UN missions in conflict zones was emphasized. Of this total, nearly 20% are female personnel.

Also present were Minister Augusto Cabrera, Director of Multilateral Organizations and Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and General Johny Chuquimajo, head of the Office of International Affairs of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces.

During his speech, Roman Morey announced commitments to strengthen Peru's participation in peacekeeping missions.

Among these, he underscored the reconfiguration of the Construction and Maintenance of Airfields Company, currently deployed in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), into a multipurpose engineering unit.

Additionally, the upcoming deployment of specialized police teams focused on preventing sexual and gender-based violence, as well as on forensic investigation, was announced.

Regarding training, Peru will continue offering courses for Military Observers and Staff Officers, in addition to implementing "train-the-trainer" programs to enhance the preparation of the UN Participation and Protection of Civilians Platoon.

Likewise, the integration of personnel from partner countries into the Peruvian Engineering Company deployed in MINUSCA will be promoted.

Lastly, UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix acknowledged Peru's active participation, as well as its regional leadership, which was reflected in the organization of the First Latin America and the Caribbean Conference on Peace Operations, held in 2022.
