on Tuesday called for general elections to be held on April 12, 2026.
"Today, in compliance with the constitutional and legal mandate, demonstrating our firm commitment to democracy and in the presence of the authorities that make up the electoral system, I call for general elections on April 12, 2026," she stated.
Similarly, the President noted that this process will allow the free and democratic election of her successor, as well as deputies and senators for the future bicameral Congress and representatives to the Andean Parliament.
"On April 12, 2026, Peruvians will have a date with history and will elect new authorities in democratic, clean, transparent, and orderly elections. This is the commitment we have made to the Peruvian people: to ensure an electoral process with all the guarantees that democracy and the country deserve," she said.
In this regard, the Head of State indicated that her administration is committed to maintaining absolute neutrality and impartiality to ensure that the results "are unquestionable and fully reflect the will of the people as expressed at the polls."
"In the presence electoral system authorities, in my capacity as President, I commit to ensuring that the National Elections Board, ONPE, and RENIEC have the necessary resources for the full execution of their duties within the framework of the electoral process I am now calling," she explained.
Furthermore, the top official expressed confidence that the electoral campaign will be based on proposals that ensure growth, social justice, and development, as well as the continuation of projects so that Peru "does not come to a standstill."
"We hope, for the sake of Peru, that the 2026 elections will not only allow our citizens to exercise their right to vote but also put an end to the period of instability that has led Peru to have six presidents, causing polarization that divided us, resulting in delayed investments and a wave of insecurity," she added.
Furthermore, the Head of State said the country must strengthen its democratic system by respecting presidential terms, as this is the only way to ensure stability and governability for the homeland.
"Today, I can tell you that Peru will hold elections in a context of economic recovery. In 2025, the projected growth is 4%, and in 2026, around 5%, with a prudent and responsible management of the economy," she expressed.
Lastly, Mrs. Boluarte called for unity among Peruvians and for everyone to act responsibly, rising above differences to "achieve the homeland we all aspire to."
"Peru needs us all; it needs the participation of its citizens. The government is committed to respecting the people's vote and handing over power to whoever wins the upcoming elections," she added.
The Head of State made this announcement during a national address from the Government Palace in Lima.
