In order to strengthen citizen security in Peru the police has carried out more than a million operations so far in 2024 and dismantled 231 criminal organizations and 12,664 criminal gangs, said the president Dina Boluarte Zegarra.

In the fight against illicit drug trafficking, she said that so far this year 18,300 police operations were carried out nationwide, resulting in the arrest of 11,500 people and the dismantling of 121 criminal organizations.
“The total amount of drugs seized reaches 157,300 kilos, 50 % more than in 2023 and 104,100 kilos of cocaine were seized an amount that exceeds by 60 % the cocaine seized in 2023. We have destroyed 95 clandestine landing strips and more than 1,000 illegal laboratories; likewise, we have recovered nearly 8 million soles (US$ 2.14 million) from drug trafficking,” she said.
President Dina Boluarte also highlighted that a historic budget has been allocated to the Sector for next year, although she also acknowledged that there is still much to do because the neglect of many years “is not erased overnight.”
She said that, with the help of the National Police, a safe Peru will be built, where every family can live in peace.
“Today we take another step towards that goal, tomorrow we will continue with the same determination, the future of Peru is not built with fear but from hope and tireless work. With the effort of all we overcome any adversity. Let it be clear that citizen security is not only a duty of the State but a national cause and together we will make it a reality,” she said.
Vehicles and motorcycles for the Police
This morning, President Dina Boluarte delivered 200 units for the National Police, 125 new 4 × 4 pick-up trucks and 75 motorcycles to reinforce patrols and police presence in the streets of Metropolitan Lima, as well as 772 computers that will be distributed among the police stations of the Lima Police Region.
“The acquisition of all these tools is a reflection of the commitment of my government, through the Ministry of the Interior, to renew the Police fleet and the computer equipment of the police stations, now it is in Lima and soon it will be nationwide,” said Boluarte.
“The vehicles and computer equipment were acquired with a budget of 28.5 million soles (US$ 7.63 million), it is an investment to provide security, protection, internal order and better attention to citizens”, she added.
Increase for Police salaries
Likewise, President Dina Boluarte recalled that next year the salary of the National Police will be increased and those who wish to work voluntarily on their days off or on vacation will have an extra payment, thanks to a regulation promoted by the Executive before Congress, and as a recognition of the effort they make in favor of security.
“I want to congratulate the leadership of our Juan José Santiváñez (Security Minister), whom I greet and thank for his management at the head of this very complicated Sector that is often unfairly criticized. I congratulate his bravery and courage to be doing innovative things in this Ministry of Security,” she said.
Finally, she also congratulated and supported all the good police officers who take pride in the uniform and risk their lives for the citizens.
“To the few who put on the police uniform and go down the path of crime, the justice will fall on them”, pointed out President Boluarte.
