Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer and Defense Minister Walter Astudillo met with U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth at the Pentagon, reaffirming their joint commitment to strengthening defense and security cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, held within the framework of Foreign Minister Schialer's official visit to Washington, D.C., they agreed to intensify bilateral collaboration in strategic areas such as the fight against drug trafficking, high-level military training, the periodic conduct of joint exercises, and access to advanced technology for our Armed Forces.

These efforts aim at strengthening national and regional security in a hemispheric context that demands coordinated responses to common threats.

The Peruvian delegation also included the Commander-in-Chief of the Peruvian Air Force, Carlos Chávez Cateriano, and the Peruvian Ambassador to the United States, Alfredo Ferrero.

The Peruvian authorities emphasized that this renewed relationship with the United States represents a concrete opportunity to modernize our defense capabilities, protect the population from new forms of violence, and strengthen democratic stability in the country and the region.

This historic meeting takes place at a key moment, less than a year after the bicentennial of diplomatic relations between Peru and the United States.

Both governments agreed that this commemoration should mark the beginning of a comprehensive strategic partnership, based on mutual trust and a shared vision of peace, development, and hemispheric security.
