Peru has urged respect for the ceasefire agreement in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, following the acts of violence that occurred in the African country over the last hours, which originated from the military offensive of the rebel armed group March 23 Movement.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, our country expresses concern about the crisis in the African country and extends its condolences to the victims' families.

"Peru urges compliance with the ceasefire agreement reached on July 31, 2024, while reaffirming its support for the efforts of the United Nations, the African Union, and the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) to achieve the necessary conditions for dialogue and peace," the statement read.

It was also announced that our country is working to ensure the safety of Peruvians who are part of MONUSCO.

To this end, it is coordinating the evacuation of Peruvian personnel from the most dangerous areas.

"Additionally, Peru expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and to the 35,000 refugees who have been displaced as a result of the recent acts of violence," the statement concluded.
