Peru's FA Min strengthens bilateral relations with counterparts from Suriname and Uruguay

Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer met with his counterparts from Suriname, Albert Ramdin, and Uruguay, Mario Lubetkin, in Washington, D.C. (United States), where he arrived to participate in the 56th Special Session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), which began today.

The Peruvian government official and his counterpart of Suriname exchanged views on the situation in the hemisphere and the challenges faced by the OAS.

Likewise, Albert Ramdin was informed of Peruvian efforts to deepen relations with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), and Peru's stance on the situation in Venezuela was reaffirmed.


Meanwhile, during his meeting with his Uruguayan counterpart, Minister Schialer expressed Peru's commitment to strengthening ties and maintaining a fluid political dialogue to coordinate efforts at both the regional and global levels.

Furthermore, he conveyed to Mario Lubetkin Peru's interest in advancing toward the signing of an Economic and Trade Deepening Agreement, as well as expanding cooperation in the fight against transnational organized crime, technological innovation, and technical cooperation.

OAS Election

Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer participates today in the 56th Special Session of the OAS General Assembly, where the new Secretary General of the Organization for the 2025-2030 term will be elected.

"The minister's presence reaffirms Peru's commitment to the Inter-American System, democracy, and regional cooperation, which are fundamental pillars of the OAS, ensuring our country's leadership through active participation in the decisions of this hemispheric organization," the Foreign Affairs Ministry stated.
