Peruvian Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzen held a meeting at the French National Assembly with Deputy Eleonore Caroit, with whom he discussed actions to continue fostering bilateral cooperation.

Deputy Caroit was elected by French nationals residing in Latin America as Vice Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee.

Both authorities discussed Peru's contribution to the Ninth High-Level Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Development Centre of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to further study and address informality, as well as the progress made by our country in the process of joining said organization, the PCM reported.

Peru at the OECD

The Peruvian Cabinet chief encouraged the global community to strengthen international and multilateral cooperation so as to address the social and economic challenges exacerbated by the economic slowdown, fiscal imbalances, inflation, inequalities aggravated by the health pandemic, among others, where he reaffirmed that the process of joining the OECD is a priority for Peru.

At the launch session of the OECD's Latin American Economic Outlook 2024 Report, Adrianzen outlined Peru's efforts to boost a rapid and sustainable recovery, based on macroeconomic and fiscal stability, and within the framework of the rule of law, constitutional order, and democracy, projecting GDP growth of close to 3.2% for 2024.

Adrianzen pointed out that informality in the labor market is one of the most complex challenges facing Latin America, which also affects Peru.

Similarly, he underscored the usefulness of the Lima Roadmap to Promote the Transition to the Formal and Global Economies (2025-2040), approved at APEC Peru 2024 Leaders' Week last November.

Progress in accession process

The Prime Minister also held meetings with OECD Deputy Secretary General Mary Beth Goodman and her legal team, with whom he reviewed the status of the accession process.

Among the advances, the 35 evaluations conducted regarding the alignment of national policies with OECD public policy standards and practices in areas such as environment, public governance, digital governance, taxation, regulatory policy, health, and regional development, among others, were highlighted.

Peru closes 2024 having successfully concluded the evaluation by the Health Committee and the Regional Development Committee, as well as seven working groups.

The Cabinet chief and senior OECD officials agreed to work more closely to implement the organization's recommendations, with the aim of improving public policies, strengthening institutional frameworks, and modernizing Peruvian State services in line with OECD standards, for the benefit of citizens.
