The meeting of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum leaders to be held in Lima this November will be attended by South Korea's President, Yoon Suk-yeol, as announced by Peru's Ambassador to the Asian country, Paul Duclos.

"We anticipated that he would participate," the diplomat said in remarks to Andina News Agency.

In this regard, he noted that the presence of the South Korean Head of State has already been confirmed via official channels.

The envoy said South Korea's president will be leading a fairly large delegation.

He added that the Asian economy will succeed Peru in organizing APEC events corresponding to next year.

"In November, the baton will be handed over; in December the first meetings of APEC Senior Officials will begin here in (South) Korea," Ambassador Duclos said.

"It will be the same as what happened with us (Peru) last year; we received the baton in November 2023, and these meetings began in December," he pointed out.

Several of them have been held in various cities. Besides, the APEC Leaders' Summit will take place in Lima this November.

By 2025, South Korea will be in charge of these tasks.

In this regard, the city of Gyeongju, located approximately 270 kilometers from Seoul -the South Korean capital-, has been designated as the main venue in the Asian country.

"They have favored the city that was the capital of the three great kingdoms during their first 1,000 years of history," the Peruvian diplomat indicated.

Duclos also noted that holding APEC meetings is one of the elements that strengthen bilateral ties between Peru and South Korea.

He mentioned that there is interest in the Asian country in getting to know Peru's proposals and situation at this forum.
