Peru: PM leads Junin Battle Bicentennial Ceremony

Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzen on Tuesday led the ceremony commemorating the Bicentennial of the Battle of Junin, a heroic feat that was decisive in the path to consolidating Peru's independence.

The Cabinet chief headed this event on behalf of the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, who was not able to attend "due to reasons of force majeure."

This announcement was issued by the Presidential Office on the X platform.


The ceremony took place at Chacamarca Historic Sanctuary on Pampa de Junin.

It included the participation of Congress' Chairman Eduardo Salhuana and other board members.

Also participating in the event were Culture Minister Leslie Urteaga, Ombudsman Josue Gutierrez, Junin Region Governor Zosimo Cardenas, local authorities, among others.


Following the official reception of the authorities, floral offerings were placed in honor of Junin victors.

Likewise, a commemorative plaque for the Bicentennial of the Battle was unveiled.

A civic and military parade also took place in the area.

August 6 marks the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Junin, which saw the patriotic army confront the royalist forces. It was the penultimate and decisive armed confrontation, ending up with a victory for the patriots.
