The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Monday said the Judicial Branch will rely on the budget that had been initially cut for the year 2025.

The Head of State participated in the ceremony to commemorate Male and Female Judges' Day.

In her speech, the top official recognized the work of magistrates and called on them to work jointly so as to build a more just country, with determination and commitment, underscoring that the responsibility they bear in administering justice "is monumental."

the President referred to what had been previously expressed by Judiciary Chairman Javier Arevalo, who questioned the fact that the Public Budget General Directorate had cut the budget for the year 2025.

Arevalo pointed out that this goes against the Government's policy of combating crime and that it will affect the work of his successor.

"I want to congratulate the Chairman of the Judiciary for that sincere speech. Mr. Chairman, be assured that the millions which have been cut from your budget will be restored to the Judiciary," Mrs. Boluarte expressed in response to Arevalo, which generated applause from those present at this event.

Likewise, the President noted that the Government is working hard to combat organized and common crime, in collaboration with the Judiciary and other institutions such as the Public Ministry and the Peruvian National Police.

In that regard, the top official underscored that this joint action has allowed for the implementation of eleven flagrancy units nationwide.

She added that more of them are planned to be established during the remainder of this year in areas that have been prioritized taking into account the Judiciary's opinion.

Moreover, Mrs. Boluarte said that efforts are being undertaken to end overcrowding in prisons, as this is essential to guarantee the human rights of prisoners and also to improve security and order.

She indicated that enhancements to the penitentiary establishments in the cities of Iquitos and Chimbote will be completed in 2025 thanks to an investment worth over S/133 million (above US$35.5 million).

"A total of 3,446 shelter units will also be built in the penitentiary establishments of Abancay, Arequipa, and Pucallpa, with an investment worth more than S/612 million (above US$163 million)," Mrs. Boluarte announced.

"Next year, the technical files will also be prepared, and construction will begin on the penitentiary facilities in Ancon 3, Trujillo, and Ica, with an investment of S/1.368 billion (about US$366 million)," she added.
