Peruvians celebrate Independence Day Anniversary in U.S. capital

The city of Washington, D.C. has recently commemorated Peru's Independence Day with various activities.

An official ceremony for raising the Peruvian flag took place Friday in front of the Don Jose de San Martin Monument at Triangle Park in the District of Columbia.

Subsequently, a Thanksgiving Mass for Peru's 203rd Independence Anniversary was held at St. Matthew the Apostle Cathedral, followed by a reception at the consulate venue.


These events saw the presence of Peruvian Ambassador to the United States, Alfredo Ferrero; Peru's Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS), Jose Luis Sardon; and Consul General based in Washington, D.C., Javier Prado.

It was also attended by officials from Peru's military attaché sections; authorities from the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia; as well as representatives from Peruvian associations.


The festivities included a tasting of Peruvian food, performances of traditional dances such as Marinera Norteña, highlighting our cultural and gastronomic richness.
