Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea on Tuesday expressed satisfaction over the approval of a decision made by Congress in order to promote —gradually— the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and other new technologies to increase efficiency and transparency at public services offered at Peruvian consulates.

In a post shared on social media, the Executive Branch representative indicated that the eventual implementation of this initiative "would strengthen the capabilities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the collection of information by other entities."

Gonzalez-Olaechea delivered these remarks during his official visit to the Chinese capital of Beijing.

The aforementioned initiative was unanimously approved last night by Congress' Foreign Affairs Commission.

The ruling establishes measures to articulate, strengthen, and implement interoperability at Peruvian consular offices.

National policies

This process takes place within the framework of the National Policy on Digital Transformation, which is intended to prioritize the implementation of "emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence."

This, in turn, takes place as part of the modernization of public management at the Peruvian State.
