Fin Min: 'This is a good time to resume aggressive growth path'

09:00 | Lima, Mar. 12.

Economy and Finance Minister Jose Salardi stated that this is a proper time for Peru to resume a much more aggressive path of economic growth.

Considering the performance of economic indicators during the first months, GDP growth in 2025 would be much faster than that observed last year, he added.

During his presentation before Congress' Budget Commission on Tuesday, Minister Salardi stated that the electoral scenario is a variable to consider in this year's growth estimates.

However, the government official noted that, historically, the economy has continued to grow despite such a scenario and that 2025 will be no exception.

The Cabinet member explained that the 4% official growth projection is higher than the estimates from other entities and institutions, as these are based on a previous scenario that had not taken into account the "reactivation shock" package of measures to be launched by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) at the end of this month.

The minister emphasized that he witnessed the optimism surrounding Peru during his recent participation in the PDAC 2025 Convention in Toronto, Canada.

Salardi noted that if the South American country makes progress in streamlining bureaucratic procedures, it will provide an additional boost to future growth.

The high-ranking official explained that he will also assess the proposals from Congress members to optimize and enhance efficiency in the Peruvian State.

In this regard, Salardi stated that he shares the views on the need for austerity and called for efforts to ensure that all State-run entities optimize their activities.
