The Third National Collegiate Criminal Court began this morning the reading of the full sentence against former President Ollanta Humala, his wife, Nadine Heredia, and others for the crime of aggravated money laundering for contributions to the 2006 and 2011 election campaigns.
Judge Nayko Coronado, director of the hearings, is in charge of reading the ruling. Prosecutor Germán Juárez Atoche, the legal counsel for the various defendants, and others will also participate in the hearing.
According to information provided at the beginning of the hearing, the former president is not present; he is being held in the Barbadillo prison and is reportedly in medical problems, according to his lawyer.
Heredia Alarcón, currently granted political asylum in Brazil, is also not participating.
Last Tuesday, April 15, in an advance sentencing, Ollanta Humala and Nadine Heredia were sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment, respectively, for being found guilty of money laundering.
The sentence was carried out that same day only in Humala Tasso's case, as the former first lady did not appear in court and hours later it was learned that she was at the Brazilian embassy in Peru.
From that diplomatic mission, she then departed for Air Group 8, from where she flew early on Wednesday the 16th to the South American country, along with her youngest son, on a Brazilian Navy aircraft. She is currently in the city of Sao Paulo.
Ilan Heredia, the former first lady's brother, is also a fugitive and was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment.
