A total of 12,970 foreign citizens arrived in Peru aboard maritime cruises so far in 2025 and visited various ports along the Peruvian coast, the
National Superintendence of Migrations reported.
The
Migrations Office highlighted that the flow of foreigners arriving in Peru aboard cruise ships has been growing since 2023, when 23,061 entries were recorded, and in 2024, 26,113 arrived, which represents an 11.69% increase.
It specified that the majority of the visitors come from the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Germany, Australia, Japan, Chile, Switzerland, the Philippines, the Netherlands, among others.
They usually disembark for a few days or hours to get to know the main attractions of the port cities, once they have passed the respective immigration control.
In March, several luxury cruises arrived at Peruvian ports, such as the Amera, under the flag of the Bahamas, which docked at Matarani with a total of 678 passengers and 410 crew members.
Also in Matarani, the cruise ship Odyssey, under the U.S. flag, had arrived weeks earlier with 227 passengers and 216 crew members.
Later, the German cruise ship Hanseatic Nature arrived at the port of Paita, in Piura region, bringing more than 300 foreign tourists interested in learning about the culture and traditions of this province.

The tourists enjoyed the Marinera dance, performed with the accompaniment of the municipal band, in addition to other artistic expressions such as the Pacasito, Festejo, and jungle dances.
Immigration control
According to the Migrations Office, to carry out immigration control onboard cruise ships, inspectors verify travelers' information previously submitted by the agencies to the maritime immigration control posts.
Thus, the data is cross-checked with national and international alert systems to avoid putting security and internal order at risk.
Then, when the vessel docks on the coast or remains offshore, immigration inspectors equipped with technological devices and special clothing for this type of intervention board the ship to carry out the respective legal controls for each foreigner.
