The
on Wednesday renewed the Government's commitment to the safety and respect for all citizens, especially girls, boys, adolescents, and women, in the face of sexual harassment.
"No woman, no boy, girl, or adolescent should feel alone when facing situations such as sexual harassment," Mrs. Boluarte stated.
"Sometimes these situations occur within the family, but also within society —in buses, at schools, markets, and on the streets," she added during the launch of the Sexual Harassment Prevention Brigades in Public Transport.
The top official said that education must be provided both at home and in educational institutions, from early childhood through higher education, about the respect that should exist among all people.
"Education is the foundation for us to respect one another, especially mothers, who talk a bit more with their children, (…) we must reinforce telling our girls and boys that no one can touch them and no one can speak to them about inappropriate matters," she emphasized.
In the event of a sexual harassment case, the President advised victims to report it to the closest and most trusted person so that the appropriate complaint can be filed.
The President stated that in such cases the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations will take immediate action, adding that the Government will proceed to impose the appropriate sanction on the "unhealthy individual who attempts to touch any boy, girl, woman, or adolescent."
"You have a Ministry of Women and a Government that protects and supports you. We will work along those lines, and thanks to you, volunteers, thank you for wanting to be the voice of those little ones —our girls, boys, adolescents, and women themselves," Mrs. Boluarte said, addressing the members of the Sexual Harassment Prevention Brigades in Public Transport.
The Head of State expressed hope that more people will join these brigades.
She also urged continued commitment to building a society where children can grow up reinforcing respect for others, both at home and in educational institutions.
This event was held at the Government Palace. It was attended by Prime Minister Eduardo Arana, and Women and Vulnerable Populations Minister Fanny Montellanos.
