"We are currently negotiating four trade agreements. One of them is with India, which will allow us to access a market of over 1.45 billion people," Leon expressed on Tuesday.
"Similarly, we are in the process of negotiating with El Salvador, where we will have preferential access, in addition to the agreements with Thailand and the Philippines, which are also under negotiation," she added.
During the presentation on the Foreign Trade and Tourism sector's progress, the government official highlighted that exports growth is due, in part, to the new markets that Peru's export supply is gaining access to.
"During the first quarter of this year, we had important announcements as Peruvian products entered new markets. We currently have 22 commercial accords in force, and we must recall that, in November 2024, during the APEC Leaders' Summit, we had the opportunity to sign the updated FTA with China and a new trade agreement with Hong Kong," Leon detailed.
"This year, in April, we signed the protocol for the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement with Guatemala, which had been pending since 2011 and will now come into effect, adding to our commercial accords that currently allow us preferential access to 58 markets worldwide," she added.
The Cabinet member emphasized that the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism's (Mincetur) work supports the growth of Peruvian exporters through direct coordination between the public and private sectors.
