Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer stated that President Dina Boluarte's trip to Ecuador is a matter of great importance due to the friendship ties with the northern neighbor.

Within this framework, the diplomat called on Congress to approve the request made so that the President can fulfill this mission.

In a press conference following the Council of Ministers, he said that Ecuador is a brotherly country with which Peru has an excellent cooperation level.

Thus, the top official's upcoming visit is a great opportunity to further strengthen those ties.

Additionally, the ambassador emphasized that both nations face common issues such as illegal mining and logging, as well as the pollution of rivers that run through their territories, with the Puyango-Tumbes River basin being one of the most affected.

"All of this, along with Ecuador's truly open, firm, and strong support —and vice versa from Peru towards Ecuador in multilateral bodies— makes the President of the Republic's visit to Ecuador an international obligation of the highest importance," Schialer expressed.

In this regard, he made a respectful call for reflection to members of Congress to consider these factors that contribute to the relationship with an important and historic neighbor of Peru —one that has grown closer over the past 26 years.

Trip to the Vatican

On another note, Minister Schialer once again highlighted President Boluarte's trip to the Vatican for Pope Leo XIV's enthronement, noting that it allowed the top official to engage with important leaders such as United States Vice President J.D. Vance, who expressed his interest in visiting Peru.

Likewise, the diplomat specified that the Peruvian Head of State was invited by Vance to visit the United States. Schialer added that this will be arranged through diplomatic channels.

Minister Schialer also mentioned that during her dialogue with the Supreme Pontiff, the President thanked the Pope for his pastoral work in Peru.

Similarly, she asked him to "continue the discreet efforts the Catholic Church is making in Peru to encourage and promote dialogue among the country's political and social forces."

Lastly, the diplomat announced that around October 5 or 10, the enshrinement of Santa Rosa de Lima will take place on the Marian Way in the Vatican Gardens, marking her as the first saint —not a virgin— to be honored there.
