The Peruvian athlete Sheyla Eulogio won the gold medal in the women’s 5000 meters event at the 2025 South American Championship in Athletics, which took place in Argentina, a result that allowed her to qualify for the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25.
The member of the National Marathoners Program (PNM) of the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) was the best with a time of 15min 51sec 27c, ahead of the Venezuelan Brea Edymar (15.55.03) and the Argetine Daiana Ocampo (15.57.15).
This mark allowed the 27-year-old from Huancayo, Peru, to qualify for the World Championships, along with Luis Henry Campos, who won gold in the 20 km race walk, and who are so far our confirmed representatives at the tournament that will take place from September 13 to 21 in Japan.

But Eulogio was not the only national medal on the last day of competitions at the South American Championship. Also, Marco Vilca, a member of the Athlete Support Program (PAD) of the IPD, won the bronze in the 800 meters with 1min 50s 93c.
Meanwhile, José Luis Mandros, also from the PAD of the IPD obtained the last spot on the podium in long jump with a mark of 7.73 meters.
In this way, the Peruvian delegation finished its participation collecting six medals: two gold (Campos and Eulogio), two silver (Ximena Zorrilla in hammer throw and Nider Pecho in 10,000 meters), and two bronze thanks to Vilca and Mandros.
