As a Government, we are aware that education is essential for fostering a society with values and for building a developed nation, President Dina Boluarte stated on Friday.

Mrs. Boluarte visited northern Piura region, where she inaugurated "Educational Institution No. 14858 Nuestra Señora de Fatima."

"Without education, achieving the homeland's development is much more difficult. That is why, in 2024, we implemented investments exceeding S/7 billion (above US$1.9 billion) to construct 75 Bicentennial Schools, 26 modular schools, and restore student residences," she emphasized.

The Head of State noted that this investment is not an expense but a crucial step toward shaping Peru's future leaders and closing historic gaps.

In this context, the President specified that more than 680 educators, assistants, and administrative staff from the education sector, who had legal proceedings taken against them and convictions for serious crimes, such as sexual assault, harassment, and terrorism, have been removed from duties.

"Children's education must be untarnished. There is no place here for teachers with ideologies that could harm students' learning, nor for ideologies that hinder the homeland’s development," she pointed out.

The top official stated that these individuals "will in no way" be allowed to endanger the integrity of children again.

The President called on the Judiciary to work together to ensure the safety of pupils and prevent these individuals from returning to educational institutions.

"In our government, we are demonstrating a firm commitment to education and to students, who deserve more and better opportunities. This is how we advance the development of the country for the benefit of over 33 million Peruvians," she added.

Inauguration

The President, accompanied by Piura's Governor Luis Neyra, inaugurated the facilities of Nuestra Señora de Fatima Educational Institution, a school that had been affected by flooding caused by the El Niño phenomenon.

Mrs. Boluarte highlighted that the new school was built with an investment of over S/48 million (US$13 million) and is equipped with classrooms, a library, technology innovation rooms, a sports court, and spaces for children to develop their skills.

"I have toured the classrooms, and the principal told me that over 500 children have enrolled because they are excited to study in this beautiful educational facility. It is a modern school that has now become a reality," she said.

The Head of State also reiterated that this new infrastructure reflects the Government’s political will to improve education with better facilities.
