During the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly,
carried out a full agenda in New York.
At the Security Council debate on artificial intelligence (AI), international peace and security, the government official highlighted AI's potential for global security.
The minister stated that it is a tool which can save lives and support conflict prevention.
During his speech, the diplomat warned about the risks posed by AI without proper governance.
In this regard, he highlighted Peru's progress in implementing a national governance framework with an ethical approach and in developing a National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, with concrete applications in areas such as cybersecurity, public safety, and health.
Likewise, the minister called for international cooperation to ensure that artificial intelligence is not used in ways that prevent the ultimate decision from resting with humans, such as in autonomous weapons systems with little or no human control.
"Artificial intelligence must always serve humanity and remain under its control," Schialer asserted.
At the 2nd G20 Ministerial Meeting, the Cabinet member underscored the United Nations' role as the main forum for the peaceful resolution of disputes.
In this regard, Minister Schialer reaffirmed Peru's commitment to a comprehensive reform of the international financial architecture to support national development strategies, including those of middle-income countries, enabling them to avoid the "middle-income trap" through greater resource mobilization.
He further emphasized the need to provide timely and adequate support to the most vulnerable countries facing external crises.
Additionally, at the Ibero-American Foreign Ministers' meeting, the participants adopted a declaration expressing support for the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti.
The declaration also called on the UN Security Council to transform the mission into a more effective mechanism with clear funding, based on solidarity and international cooperation.
Similarly, during his participation in the CELAC-China ministerial meeting, Minister Schialer acknowledged China's strategic role in the region's economic development as a partner in trade, investment, and cooperation projects.
He considered it essential to strengthen bi-regional coordination for the benefit of citizens.
Moreover, Minister Schialer held a bilateral meeting with Albania's Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Elisa Spiropali, with whom he agreed to establish a political consultation mechanism to strengthen diplomatic relations, which will mark 55 years in 2026.
He also met with his Hungarian counterpart, Péter Szijjártó, with whom he agreed to promote bilateral dialogue and increase high-level visits.
