The
has imposed an 18-month travel ban on former Interior Minister Juan Jose Santivañez, as part of an ongoing investigation into his alleged commission of the crime of aggravated influence peddling.
"The judicial ruling states that the evidence presented and assessed demonstrates that there is indeed a risk Santivañez Antunez may evade justice," the Judiciary stated on its official X account.
This decision was issued by the Permanent Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, which was presided over by Supreme Judge Manuel Lujan Tupez.
The court upheld the appeal filed by the Attorney General's Office against the ruling issued by the Supreme Court of Preliminary Investigation dated March 20, 2025, which had rejected the request for a travel ban against Santivañez Antunez.
Consequently, the Supreme Court overturned said ruling and ordered that its decision be notified to all parties involved in the proceedings.
The case relates to the investigation of the former Interior Minister for allegedly exerting unlawful influence over the Constitutional Court, the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE), and the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights in favor of convicted individual Miguel Marcelo Salirrosas, also known as "Tio Jhony"(Uncle Jhony).
Salirrosas is a former police agent sentenced for illicit association to commit a crime and usurpation, after being accused of belonging to the criminal organization "Los Injertos de K y K" (The Grafts of K and K).
