Peru condemns attack carried out by Israel on Qatari territory

Peru on Wednesday expressed its rejection of and deep concern over the attack carried out by Israel's military forces on the State of Qatar's territory.

The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the attack endangers international peace and security, as well as violates international law. 

Likewise, the South American country urged that the safety of civilian populations in the area be ensured.

"The Government of Peru expresses its rejection of and deep concern over the attack carried out by Israel on the territory of the State of Qatar," the communiqué pointed out.

Our country also reiterated its call for all parties to immediately cease hostilities in the Gaza Strip and to prevent any military escalation, considering the risk of unintended consequences for regional stability and international security.

"Peru reaffirms its steadfast respect for international law and for the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, regarding respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States," the document issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

In recent hours, a series of explosions were reported in Qatar's capital, and a column of smoke rose over Doha.


The government of the Gulf country reported that it was an Israeli attack targeting a meeting of several members of Hamas' political bureau in a residential building.

In response, Qatar's Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani stated that his country reserves the right to respond to these attacks, noting that the action "not only violated international law but also ethical and humanitarian standards."
