The president of the republic, Dina Boluarte, said today that the results achieved show that Peru is making "steady progress" in the frontal fight against delinquency and organized crime, hand in hand with the National Police of Peru (PNP).
This statement were made during the graduation ceremony for second lieutenants of the PNP, an event that took place in the district of Puente Piedra in Lima city.
"Dear compatriots, together with the National Police of Peru we are leading a frontal fight against delinquency and organized crime and the results show us that we are making steady progress," she said.
In this regard, she indicated that more than a million operations were carried out this year, achieving the arrest of more than 71 thousand wanted persons and 263 thousand criminals in flagrante delicto, as well as 7 thousand weapons seized, dismantling 231 criminal organizations and 12 thousand 700 criminal gangs.
She also specified that the specialized police units also dealt heavy blows to organized crime, with the 95 thousand 890 operations carried out, managing to arrest 9 thousand wanted persons, 15 thousand people arrested in flagrante delicto, 1 thousand 800 weapons seized and 204 criminal organizations and 949 gangs dismantled.
"The numbers do not lie, our government is committed to achieving a safe Peru, for this reason we have allocated historic budgets to strengthen citizen security and for 2025 we have allocated an initial budget of more than 16 billion soles (US$ 4.2 billion)," she added.
She said that this investment will strengthen police patrol and the fight against drug trafficking, as well as the maintenance of police stations and specialized units, among other projects.
"Citizen security is a task that involves us all, let us contribute to achieving it, to establish a culture of reporting crimes in order to strengthen the work of the National Police and the institutions that administer justice," she added.
Finally, she told the new police lieutenants that they will be in charge of the security of Peruvians and that in this task "they will act with courage."
