The governments of Peru and the Republic of Korea signed documents reaffirming their bilateral collaboration in areas such as politics, diplomacy, trade, investment, defense, and science-technology.
Both leaders expressed their commitment to further deepening existing ties.
The Peruvian top official stated that "the situation and opportunities in various areas of our bilateral relationship have been reviewed" at the meeting.
"This occasion has been a great opportunity to acknowledge the trust of South Korean investors in Peru and to encourage them to continue investing in our country, highlighting our solid economic legal framework and our macroeconomic and financial stability," she expressed.
In this regard, Mrs. Boluarte emphasized that the bilateral trade activity "is supported by a legal framework that promotes it, such as the Free Trade Agreement currently in force," which "has enabled our products to reach South Korea in increasing volumes."
Furthermore, the top official expressed her best wishes for South Korea's success in organizing next year's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings.
"You can count on our full support," she said, addressing her counterpart.
South Korean Contributions
President Yoon Suk-yeol announced that, at the meeting, both sides agreed to expand cooperation in the defense industry.
"This year, the Peruvian Army and Navy selected South Korean companies as strategic partners to carry out key projects," he noted.
It was also agreed to consolidate economic and infrastructure cooperation, said the Korean dignitary, who mentioned the willingness of both parties to complete the construction of the Chinchero Airport in Cusco region.
Additionally, Mr. Yoon Suk-yeol stated that technological cooperation between the two countries will be strengthened, highlighting what is outlined in memorandums on technology, communications, and digital transition."
"Despite the geographical distance between us, last year, over 14,000 South Korean citizens visited Peru," he highlighted, expressing optimism that tourism will increase following the bilateral memorandum signed on Saturday.
The South Korean President also emphasized that during the meeting, both countries agreed to "jointly condemn the provocations by North Korea, which pose a threat to the global non-proliferation regime, as well as to regional peace and security."
In this regard, he reiterated the need for the "complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization" of North Korea.
