Next year, Peruvian local governments will receive an additional budget of 800 million soles (about 277 million dollars) to ensure a more efficient fight against chronic child malnutrition in the country, said Peru’s prime minister Javier Velasquez.

The Government has set a goal to “significantly” reduce this terrible statistic. For this reason, it is required to strengthen the work of municipalities, so they become more committed to the goal.

The 800 million soles will be spent basically on encouraging local governments to have a more effective involvement in this struggle.

For this purpose, Women Minister Nidia Vilchez met today with the Technical Secretariat of the Intersectoral Committee on Social Affairs, Virginia Borra.

Velasquez Quesquen explained that his and the ministerial cabinet’s presence in Santa Maria de Nieva was to hold a working session with representatives of indigenous communities.
