The Head of State met with the President of the Lima 2027 Organizing Committee, the President of Panam Sports, and the President of the Americas Paralympic Committee to be briefed on the ongoing work plan and the strategic roadmap for next year's Pan American and Parapan American Games.
During the meeting, the top official emphasized that, as President of Peru, she feels deeply proud that the country will once again host these sporting events.
Fujimori said progress has not been made at the required pace, as reflected across different parts of the State, but that, as new Head of State, she is there to correct those shortcomings and accelerate the process.
Addressing sports leaders and athletes, the top official said she will accompany them whenever necessary and coordinate meetings with the Ministers of Economy-Finance and Education.
The President greeted athletes across the country, saying they are a true example of what it means to lead a life of discipline, perseverance, and resilience.
"I am confident that these Games will allow athletes to showcase their talent and inspire all young people to continue practicing sports, and that anything in life can be achieved when one prepares, and when one perseveres in pursuing one's dreams with method and discipline," she underscored.
The Head of State also addressed multiple-time Olympic gold medalist in artistic gymnastics Simone Biles of the United States, welcoming her to the country and saying that she is an inspiration to young people.
The top official added that she was confident Biles will enjoy her visit to Peru.
Champion athletes present
The President made these remarks during a meeting with Lima 2027 Organizing Committee President Sergio Ludena, Panam Sports President Neven Ilic, Americas Paralympic Committee President Julio Cesar Avila, and International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Cecilia Tait Villacorta.
Also attending the event at the Government Palace were Colombian Paralympic champion Karen Palomeque and Peruvian gymnast Fabiola Diaz Mendoza.
During the meeting, the Head of State received a Panam Sports commemorative medal and an official Paralympic team jersey.
Official Peruvian team jerseys were also presented to the distinguished international athletes.
