Peru: Government expresses solidarity with Philippines after major earthquake

The Peruvian Government expressed its solidarity with the people and government of the Philippines following the high-magnitude earthquake that struck the country's Mindanao region.

Likewise, Peru extended its condolences to the victims’ families, as the preliminary reports put the death toll above 30.

"Peru expresses its solidarity with the people and government of the Philippines following the high-magnitude earthquake that struck the Mindanao region, leaving more than 30 people dead, as well as dozens injured and missing," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on X.

Through the statement, Peru also expressed its support for the families of the missing, while wishing those injured and affected a swift recovery.

A strong 7.8-magnitude quake struck the island of Mindanao in southern Philippines, leaving more than 30 people dead and over 130 injured, according to the Philippine Civil Defense Office.

Some 10,000 families have been forced to leave their homes as a result of the seismic event.
