Peru: PM leads coordination efforts to strengthen emergency prevention measures

Prime Minister Luis Arroyo led a meeting held Tuesday at the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) in Lima's Chorrillos district, aimed at strengthening prevention and response measures against potential emergencies.

The information was announced by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) on X.

Arroyo said the Government must be prepared with the necessary supplies to assist affected people while strengthening the capabilities of the National Civil Defense Institute's (Indeci) Rapid Intervention Groups for Emergencies and Disasters.

"From the COEN, the Prime Minister is leading the multisectoral coordination process to strengthen prevention and response efforts against potential emergencies," it stated.

According to the post, the meeting was attended by Ministers Amadeo Flores (Defense), Rodolfo Acuña (Economy and Finance), Jose Zapata (Interior), and Waldir Ayasta (Energy and Mines).

Also attending were Ministers Wilder Sifuentes (Housing, Construction, and Sanitation), Cesar Quispe (Production), Felipe Meza (Agrarian Development and Irrigation), and Fatima Altabas (Culture).


Authorities from the Ministries of Transportation and Communications and Education participated in the event, along with representatives from the National Center for Disaster Risk Estimation, Prevention, and Reduction (Cenepred), the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (Senamhi), and the PCM.

"Multisectoral coordination in response to the potential arrival of Coastal El Niño!" the post added.
